China’s “National Sword” policy is driving brands to reconsider their own operations in this new age of recycling. The market shift will have fundamental and long-lasting impact on the circular economy ecosystem, not only in China, but also in rest of the world. With strong support from China’s government, this change has created a major new opportunity for global brands to participate in and benefit from circular economy trends.

Through our China Program, we’re building bridges in circular economy in China and North America by helping Chinese companies invest in N. America and build strategic partnerships.

HOW IT WORKS

The circular economy has gained strategic importance for China’s Central government. The State Council issued “Circular Economy development strategy”, which has lead to strong support from the public sector from both a financial and policy standpoint.   • We spoke on Closing the Loop: Investing to Create a Circular Economy at Start Me Up Festival, Hong Kong, January 21-25.
  • We’ve been at SWANA Palooza, Boston MA, speaking on Marine Litter – The Last Straw?  February 26. We’ve also spoken at the Plastics Recycling Conference, DC, in March on The Evolving Resin Market Landscape.  
  • We’re hosting two delegations of 30 CEOs of Chinese Recycling companies, led by China National Resources Recycling Association & China Scrap Plastics Association at our NY office  and our portfolio company rPlanet Earth at LA to discuss opportunities arising from the evolving market situation post China ban.
