Closed Loop Partners (CLP) is an investment firm comprised of venture capital, growth equity, private equity, and project finance as well as an innovation center focused on building the circular economy. We have built an ecosystem that connects entrepreneurs, industry experts, global consumer goods companies, retailers, financial institutions and municipalities. Our investments align capitalism with positive social and environmental impact by reducing waste and greenhouse gas emissions via materials innovation, advanced recycling technologies, supply chain optimization, and landfill diversion.

The firm’s Infrastructure Group includes the Closed Loop Infrastructure Fund (CLIF), Closed Loop Beverage Fund (CLBF), and Closed Loop Circular Plastics Fund, and will continue to grow as we launch new funds. Our funds are created and backed by the world’s largest retailers, consumer goods companies, and leading innovators in the circular economy, who have collaborated to invest in building comprehensive infrastructure to increase the circularity of various products and packaging across North America.

Role & Responsibilities

The Closed Loop Infrastructure Group seeks an energetic and driven origination professional with excellent relationship management, organization, and technical skills to directly support the group’s co-heads. We seek a candidate with strong industry contacts and relevant experience in a circular economy- or recycling-focused role, along with having an informed perspective on circular economy market trends and opportunity sets. If you join us, you will serve a key role in an early, growing team, interfacing with both the firm’s leadership and key external stakeholders. Your contributions will be critical to growing our group and creating a dynamic and successful portfolio of organizations that are innovating and creating impacts toward a more circular economy.

The candidate will be expected to:

  • Lead deal sourcing activities for circular economy-focused infrastructure projects spanning collection, sortation, materials reclamation, and technology deployment throughout the U.S. and Canada, including prospecting, identifying, and initiating new opportunities through targeted research, outreach, and CRM input.
  • Leverage existing industry relationships and networks to generate commercial interest in the funds.
  • Develop and deliver compelling value propositions of the funds mapped to prospective client business needs.
  • Build new relationships to expand the Infrastructure Group’s reach and help identify and seize short-, medium-, and long-term investment opportunities.
  • Be a keen observer and develop an effective working knowledge of various parts of Closed Loop Partners and be a diligent “dot connector” to architect opportunities that benefit the Infrastructure Group and/or the firm at large.
  • Guide prospective applicants seeking financing through the origination process to ensure all early-stage due diligence documentation is received and contribute to all aspects of the operational due diligence process for each respective prospect.
  • Contribute to developing our investment thesis by leading market research and sharing insights with the team.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the team to develop strategic initiatives to foster relationships with key referral sources including commercial banks, private equity firms, non-bank lenders, investment banks, and other advisory firms.
  • Help drive high-quality deal flow to meet established capital deployment targets.
  • Rigorously employ the various information management, data handling, and communication tools adopted by the group to track progress, identify opportunities, and prioritize pipeline opportunities.

What we are Looking For:

  • You are invigorated by the prospect of growing a business and seeing activities through to the end.
  • You would find speaking to and meeting with potential borrowers/investees energizing versus draining or tedious.
  • You are meticulous about documenting your process, feedback that you receive from potential clients or borrowers/investees, and you would enjoy finding ways to automate and improve your own and our group’s processes.
  • You are analytical about the funnel of potential investment opportunities from early lead all the way to deal closure.
  • You are interested in finding clever ways to support our key stakeholders, including investor base, borrowers, and other potential partners.
  • You are committed to our “impact first” ethos and have a clear and demonstrated passion for the opportunities posed by the circular economy and sustainable finance.
  • You thrive on being a strong individual contributor while fostering cohesion within a small and agile team.

  • 5 – 8 years of experience in the environmental services, waste management, sustainability, or circular economy industry; ideal candidate will have a passion for opportunities posed by the circular economy.
  • Ability to understand the operational and financing needs of early and growth stage companies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, use of CRM or demonstrated interest and ability to learn.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to relate to a wide and diverse range of individuals and organizations including municipal public works officials and employees, facility operators, and finance teams.
  • Willingness to travel (up to 40%).
