Credit Portfolio Manager, Closed Loop Project Finance Group

Opportunity
The Closed Loop Project Finance Group currently includes two private debt funds with additional funds in the pipeline. The current funds include The Closed Loop Infrastructure Fund (CLIF), established in 2014 and recommitted in 2019, and the Closed Loop Beverage Fund (CLBF), established in 2019. Both funds provide impact-first (below market rate), asset-backed loans to public (municipal) and private projects that increase the quality and quantity of recyclable materials in North America as well as private companies that provide innovative solutions using recycled content.

The Portfolio Manager is a VP/Executive Director level role that will lead day-to-day oversight, monitoring, and management of the loan portfolio; collaborate with the investment team of the fund to source, diligence, structure and negotiate new loans for the portfolio; provide strategic input and market insight to the investment team and to the funds’ independent boards of advisors; work in tandem with our Impact Due Diligence team and experts within the investment team to measure, manage and monitor specific environmental and social impact outcomes; help the firm launch new credit funds and other credit products as opportunities arise; manage and mentor a small team of investment analysts.

The position offers the opportunity for a senior professional with fundamental credit training and lending experience to apply his/her creativity in deal sourcing and structuring, to be flexible with borrowers in pursuit of the funds’ impact goals. This Portfolio Manager will have an observable positive impact on the planet while working with a team of passionate investment and impact analysts, senior recycling industry operators, and fund managers within the Project Finance Group and across Closed Loop Partners.
 

Responsibilities
Manage credit investing platform of Closed Loop Partners, currently comprised of two impact-focused, asset-based lending funds: The Closed Loop Infrastructure Fund and the Closed Loop Beverage Fund
Oversee day-to-day management of credit funds, including strategy/positioning, deal sourcing, diligence, structuring, post-investment management, restructuring and work-outs
Work collaboratively with other members of fund diligence teams on sourcing, diligence, impact assessment, financial analysis, contract negotiation, and borrower relationship management
Quickly learn recycling industry, conduct business analysis, and structure deals creatively so as to both achieve social and environmental change and generate appropriate financial returns
Along with team members, develop and maintain deep and trusting relationships with borrowers. Communicate frequently with a multitude of stakeholders
Monitor and mitigate risk via fundamental and transaction specific due diligence, loan structuring, and high-touch borrower relationships
Collaborate with CFO and Controller on quarterly and annual reporting
Participate in quarterly meetings with fund Advisory Board, comprised of leading consumer packaged goods companies and retailers
Oversee and mentor 1-2 investment Analysts/Associates
Work collaboratively, efficiently and strategically with other members of fund diligence team involved in deal sourcing, impact measurement, and financial analysis
Provide market color and strategic support to the CEO and firm’s management team as needed
 

Qualifications
Minimum 10 years experience in finance, strategy consulting or related experience
Minimum 5 years experience in a senior credit role, including direct lending, private credit investing, municipal finance, credit risk management; experience in asset-based lending preferred; experience in SRI-linked lending or blended finance a plus but not required
Experienced in full deal cycle, from origination to fundamental credit analysis to loan negotiation and restructuring
Comfort reviewing and negotiating standard credit agreements
Strong work ethic, self-starter, and highly collaborative
