
Martin Aares
Martin co-heads Closed Loop Partners private equity platform, the Closed Loop Leadership Fund. He is a veteran sustainability investor with a strong track record in buyouts, growth equity and project finance. Throughout his career, Martin co-founded three investment funds and held leadership positions in multiple growth companies.
Prior to joining Closed Loop Partners in 2018, Martin co-founded Novus Energy Partners in 2007, a clean energy growth equity firm based between the US and Norway. The firm focused on resource efficiency across clean energy, energy intelligence, lighting, water, waste to value, transportation, materials, and sustainable agriculture, sourcing investments across North America and Europe. Martin was also a co-founder and partner of Traverse Venture Partners, a firm investing at the intersection of sustainability technologies and the built environment.
Previously, Martin was a senior vice president in GE’s renewable energy investment group, GE Energy Financial Services, where he led buyouts and project finance investments in the solar, wind and biomass sectors. Earlier in his career, he was an investment banker with Goldman Sachs and a vice president with Stern Stewart, a management consulting firm. Martin has deep transaction experiences from both sides of the Atlantic, having worked in the UK and Scandinavia for over half a decade.
A native of Oslo, Norway, Martin received his MBA from Harvard Business School and BS from University of Virginia. In his spare time, Martin enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. He is also an avid tennis player and skier.
