Steve Skurnac

Operating Advisor

Steve Skurnac is a Senior Operating Advisor for Commercial and Operations Management for Closed Loop Private Equity. 

Steve has decades of experience  working in the recycling services industry, with demonstrated impact in corporate and commercial business leadership, as well as deep knowledge of strategy, business transformation, team building, change management, internal and JV Board experience, and international organization structures and analysis. Since retiring from Sims Limited, he has consulted privately for independent industrial firms and provided angel investments to startups. 

Steve finished his career at Sims as Interim Chief Financial Officer, and prior to this was Chief Development Officer for more than seven years, from 2016-2023. In this role, he led innovative and new business opportunities like Sims Municipal Recycling, which was acquired by Closed Loop Partners and Sims Resource Renewal, as well as major acquisitions and divestitures that helped Sims expand across continents. Steve also led the development of the Sims Limited long-term strategy, helping set up the company for ongoing success in the years ahead. Prior to becoming Chief Development Officer, Steve headed up what has now become Sims Lifecycle Services (2007-2013), leaving a legacy of innovation and opportunity in the data center service market. 

Prior to his time at Sims, Steve spent 23 years at Noranda Inc. (later Xstrata Inc. and now Glencore), where his experience included zinc and lead, and sulfuric acid sales. In 1991, he was appointed President of Noranda Recycling, based in San Jose, CA. Subsequently, he was also appointed Global Vice President, Copper and Precious Metal Recycling for Noranda. 

Steve has an Engineering Degree from the University of Toronto.
